Bio
Thick, syrupy, accented rhymes will leave listeners guessing where Papi is from. Papi’s hometown of Oklahoma is the center of The United States and Papi’s voice encompasses the distinctive vocal characteristics of the surrounding regions. While his smooth melodic flow caters to the ladies, his chords are coated in a raspy armor which warns competitors to stay on the lookout. This MC has been around the block and calls the shots. Vicious in demeanor and meaner on his tracks, Papi is The Oklahoma Underground King who is not going to relinquish his crown. He will not be overthrown from is hip-hop throne.
On July 11, 1985 Christopher Dustin Angle was born to Ruthe Anne and DeArmond H. Angle in Del City, Oklahoma. He was dubbed Papi because of his ‘wise beyond his years’ demeanor. As a youth he, traveled the United States with his father which exposed him to different walks of life. His familiarity with different cultures is evident in his unique accent which serves as one of the most prominent attributes to his talent. With fellow label mate JB Da-1, and former band mates Block Boyz, in July 2011 he opened for Ace Hood at the Springlake Event Center in Oklahoma City, Ok.
“Son I’ve seen you write poetry that has made girls cry with every emotion…quit bullshitting and do something with it.” With his mother urging him to focus and take music seriously Papi finally wrote a song and within one week had four records under his belt. Although Papi has always had an interest in music, his concentration staggered and affected his ability to complete a track.
Papi went on to release Not For Kids with producer Nicholas Harris and together they sold hundreds of copies. Eventually Papi decided to strike out on his own to seek a broader listener demographic and establish a broader fan base. While calling a tent home, Papi worked at a gas station and pushed copies of his cd to pull himself out the gutter.
Later Papi joined the hip-hop group Block Boyz and released the band’s namesake album. Papi parted ways with Block Boyz and had a chance meeting with the founders of Cirius Entertainment. After he joined Cirius band mate JB Da-1 soon followed suit. Papi released “That’s You” a laidback, sexy club anthem which features HyperAkktiv and JB. The deep-toned, crispness of his vocal sound offset by the animated, briskness of HyperAkktiv and JB’s voices is the recipe for the perfect club number. Papi uses “poetic laws” to formulate his rhymes and he inspires to be a musical icon like music legends Tupac Shakur and Tech 9.
His first commercial album Faces is to be released soon but until then fans can hear his music on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/#!/OkcPapi and follow him on twitter at https://twitter.com/#!/OkcPapi
